34 But when the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered themselves together,. 35 One of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, 36 ``Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?'' 37 And He said to him, `` `YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.' 38 ``This is the great and foremost commandment. 39 ``The second is like it, `YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.' 40 ``On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.'' NOTE Jesus was very simple and straight-forward as He was attacked by differing factions: 1. You are mistaken. 2. You don't understand the Scriptures. 3. You don't understand the power of God. 4. God is not the God of the dead, but of the living! 5. The bottom-line is to LOVE GOD AND TO LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOU LOVE YOUSELF. There is nothing complicated about Jesus or His message. He is irresistibly simple, just the opposite of what our nature seems to be-to complicate most everything. This is why Jesus always unites and religion always divides!
